Four Tips for Leaving the Perfect Voicemail!

VoicemailIn today’s busy workplace, more and more professionals are letting their voicemail screen their phone calls for them, listening to messages and returning the phone calls which they deem the most important. Whether someone presses ‘delete’ for your voicemail often depends on the quality of the message. Take a look at the following four tips for leaving a voicemail that gets results!

  1. Power: A strong voice is critical for projecting confidence and professionalism. Remember: your breath is the power behind your voice. Before you begin to speak, take a deep breath from your abdomen. Find a few strategic moments in your message to take more breaths to maintain a confident, powerful voice throughout the entire message.
  2. Strategic Pausing: Pausing makes your message easier to understand by giving your listener time to process your speech. Use Corporate Speech Solutions’ proven strategic pausing system to boost your clarity! Don’t forget to pause between your first and last name, between each word in your company’s name, and between the chunks of digits in your telephone number (e.g. “two one two” pause “five five five” pause “six seven one three.”)
  3. Clarity: A mumbled message is difficult to understand and often deleted outright by people who don’t have the time to try to decipher what is being said. Take extra care to pronounce each sound, especially the consonants at the ends of words, and don’t rush your speech.
  4. Be Concise: Your message should be short enough to avoid irritation, but still contain all of the necessary information. A good rule of thumb, is a voicemail message shouldn’t be longer than 30 seconds. To help keep it short and sweet, before making a call, think about what you want to say if you have to leave a message. Advanced planning can go a long way!
