The economy may be shaky, but your self-confidence shouldn't be!
Speak for Success - Learn to Impress:
I know we all want to make this new year a great and prosperous year. What does that mean to you? Getting more clients? Changing jobs? Getting a promotion? Or just plain making more money! No matter what your goal is, good communication skills are key to your business success.
Think about the people that impress you when they speak. Business colleagues, managers, politicians and/or news reporters. Are they clear and articulate or mumbling and barely audible?
Do you want to learn to speak in a clear, articulate and dynamic manner and impress others? Then you should consider a speech-training program at Corporate Speech Solutions.
If you can't communicate well with clients or prospects you may lose them.
In August 2009, Corporate Speech Solutions conducted a poll with 100 respondents.
Results revealed that if a message is not understood, 2/3 people in business will ask for one or two repetitions and then either guess, or take their business elsewhere.
Guessing leads to miscommunication, miscommunication leads to lost dollars for the company. Do you want to be responsible for lost dollars to your company?
Over time, many of us develop sloppy speech habits. We mumble, speak too fast and are often barely audible in a meeting or over the telephone. Many people think, "This is the way I have always sounded so I cannot change that!"
Wrong! With proper training you can change the way you speak and communicate to others and you too can learn to Speak for Success and Learn to Impress.
Here are several tips to help you start the year off on the right foot.
- Speak clearly. If people occasionally ask you to repeat what you have just said you may need to enunciate better. If you are a second language learner you may need to participate in an accent reduction program. Effective communication skills are key to building your business! Think about the voice mail messages that are not being returned. Is it because they couldn't clearly understand your name and/or telephone number?
- Slow down your rate of speech! No matter how fast paced the world is and no matter how busy you think the listener is, you will be a more effective communicator if you slow down your rate of speech. Learn to use strategic pausing!
- Develop a dynamic speaking voice. Timothy Koegel from "The Exceptional Presenter," states "People associate a strong voice with confidence. People associate a weak voice with a lack of confidence." Develop a strong, confident speaking voice!
- Remember those nonverbal communication behaviors. Good eye contact paired with a warm handshake and smile is the best route to establishing a good first impression. Good posture exudes self-confidence. From the minute you are greeted and throughout the meeting, Sit and stand tall!
- Remember to monitor your use of filler words. Avoid excessive use of "uh, um, like, you know and basically, to name a few. Here is another opportunity to remember "the power of the pause." For more tips on how to reduce the use of filler words, email us for a copy of our newsletter sent November 2009.
